What are porcelain veneers?

Thin porcelain facings (veneers) are individually produced to exact shapes according to the accurate and detailed smile design that is completed with your input in the initial planning stage. These are permanently bonded to the fronts of teeth to reshape them and build your new smile.

The ability to bond ceramics to dental enamel has revolutionised aesthetic dentistry and has allowed spectacular results while being relatively conservative of tooth structure. These can make slightly crooked teeth appear straight, close gaps between teeth, mask chips and discolouration, and even completely change the shape of teeth. Porcelain is more durable than resin composite and will more effectively protect treated teeth form further chipping, and also should last much longer with the correct care. This option can also produce greater correction of the smile than resin composite veneers.

Veneering your teeth with porcelain require at least two procedure visits. At the first visit, with a Smile Redesign plan in place, the surfaces on your teeth to be covered with porcelain are modified to make room for the veneers. Impressions are taken to construct both your new restorations (in a dental laboratory) and the temporary plastic veneers (done chairside). On the final visit, we will try on the veneers to review your new smile, before finally bonding them on with special adhesive cement that bond strongly to both the tooth beneath and the underneath surface of the veneers.
