Ever had the unwanted surprise of a tooth break? And dreading the potentially drawn out process to fix the tooth, and that’s if it’s fixable? It is something nobody wishes for. CEREC – “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic” - can be a handy solution in both being a solid restoration that will provide protection and great aesthetics, as well as a time saving solution since it is one visit and takes similar time required as a complex filling. This is especially beneficial for busy people, or anyone else who prefers to spend less time in the chair

There are many factors that could make teeth structurally weak and at risk of a sudden crack. These teeth can benefit from not only a restoration that might not last very well, but also extra strength and support, either after a break if there's enough of the tooth left to reconstruct, or a better choice would be to have this done before a breakage occurs and retain more tooth structure. These situations call for more resistant materials such as ceramics and zirconia. Regular dental filling materials do well in smaller cavities with strong surrounding tooth walls.

What makes Cerec so popular and how can Cerec work for you?

With dental bonding technology, full crowns are not the only option. Thanks to our access and utilisation of CEREC and CAD-CAM computerized technology, a custom-made tooth restoration can be designed and produced on the same day - meaning a tooth reconstruction in a ceramic material can be performed in only one dental appointment here at Manchester Unity Dental Centre. So there is no need to wait for dental restorations to return from the laboratory and take multiple visits to have teeth restored with CEREC. These restorations are strong, biocompatible and look very similar to real teeth.

Just one visit! How is it possible?

The surfaces vulnerable to cracks and damage are covered and protected, and any existing fillings are removed. The missing portions of the tooth are replicated and replaced by the strong ceramic material to provide internal support of the tooth. As much of the remaining tooth is retained as possible, making the treatment conservative of precious tooth structure.

CEREC utilises CAD-CAM technology. The tooth that is being restored is prepared and then digitally scanned to software that produces a visual model. The restoration is then designed on this software and the computer communicates with the on-site milling unit, where the restoration is produced in just 10-25 minutes. It is then treated and bonded to the tooth.

Multiple teeth also can be restored with CEREC at the same time and the convenience of this option is also available.

Here at Manchester Unity Dental Centre, we have used CEREC technology to produce our ceramic restorations with great success for over 20 years. CEREC gives you the opportunity to have your work completed in one visit, banishing laboratory turn-around times for beautiful ceramic restorations that blend in naturally with the rest of your teeth.
